Case Study: Business Support for Start-up
Entrepreneurs
LearningHouse was commissioned by London Borough of Islington and the
Arsenal Regeneration Team to support start-up entrepreneurs in Islington
and Camden. The 3-month programme 'Just an Idea' was delivered with great
success four times between 2005 and 2006.
"It gave me necessary confidence to open and run
a small business last year, providing me with all the knowledge and support
you need to do that. A great experience."
Case Study: Supporting market traders EC1
The project offered grass roots enterprise support, increasing business
confidence and encouraging local enterprise, focusing especially on maximizing
the potential of the Whitecross Street Market community traders. Many
of the participants have progressed to self-employment and are ready to
develop their businesses further.
“The course allowed me to come alive
in the sense of skills learned. I now have more confidence in my idea,
actually seeing how my business could work in real life. It gave me the
motivation to work on it at home.”
Joseph Oliver, founder of Bash Creations used the ‘Just
an Idea’ programme to get his business idea off the ground, while
Amy Walker participated in the EC`1 Enterprise Programme to take her business
skills to the next level.

Walker, Velvet Mutineer
Amy, ‘the velvet mutineer’ decided that it shouldn’t
just be coffee, chocolate and other food products that get to be fairtrade
so she began her own search for regular suppliers of organic, ethically-produced
yarns, fabrics and materials to create her niche market of unique and
environmentally -conscious textile products. http://www.velvetmutineer.com/
